History

The Origins – 1977 to 1985

The foundations for today’s Oberzom S.A. were laid in 1977. The inventor and founder began registering the first patents in 1977. From the very beginning, these were related mainly to the optimisation of rotary piston machines, the development of new types of pumps, and increasing efficiency in engine and drivetrain technology.

Expansion of Development Work – 1985 to 1992

By 1992, we had developed the decisive fundamentals and designs for the outstanding and innovative technologies we have today. Ongoing advancement and optimisation in terms of pump and engine technology have continued from the beginning right up to today. The experience from almost four decades and the operation on almost every continent have turned our developments into mature and unrivalled technologies.

Distribution and Implementation of the Existing Technologies - 1993 to 2005

Between 1993 and 2005, the technology for highly effective pumps was continually improved. Since then, our pumps have been in use in, among other locations, gold mines in South Africa. Due to the working depth of over 1,000 meters, there was a requirement for new high-performance pumps with high efficiency to pump the groundwater up to surface level. Through the application of our technology, large financial advantages could be achieved for the mine owners. It has likewise been possible since then to overcome great height differences without difficulty. Our pump technology is also highly powerful as a result of its integrated energy regeneration.

We were also able to develop a similarly innovative high-performance pump for Rolls Royce, which is used in the engines powering the Airbus A380. The state-of-the-art was well surpassed with this solution, and extremely high pressures could be achieved under the harshest of conditions in aviation. The reaction speed and efficiency of these pumps is yet to be matched.

Technology Optimisation Phase – 2005 to 2014

From 2005 onwards, the development of innovative drivetrain technology has become the focus of the development team to an ever-increasing degree. During this time, the foundation for our unparalleled engine technology were developed.

The upcoming worldwide problem of drinking water supply, and specifically the related challenge of seawater desalination, was another major development and innovation milestone. We were able to develop a high-performance pump with integrated energy regeneration that led to a huge increase in effectiveness and a considerable increase in efficiency. The topic of global drinking water supply is more pressing now than ever before, and the need for effective and economically viable systems is a given.

During this phase, today’s Oberzom S.A. was founded in 2007 to guarantee future further development and more pioneering innovations. High-performance pumps were also developed for the manufacturers of high-pressure cleaners (WAP, Nilfisk), which are in use in their devices up to this day. Further inventions have also found their way successfully to market, but in these cases, the companies involved are located in sectors related to security and can therefore not be mentioned.

Completion of Pioneering Technologies – 2015 to Today

Technology for seawater desalination was optimised in 2015 and 2016. It is now possible to economically convert very large amounts of seawater into drinking water using the pumps developed by us. Through the integrated energy regeneration, our high-performance pumps require merely a third of the energy expended previously. The high throughput of the pumps, and their extremely long service life and consequently greatly reduced running costs make our technology revolutionary and unparalleled, and unique on the world stage.

Oberzom S.A. - Today

Seawater desalination, preparation of potable water, and optimal supply of drinking water is one of our mainstays. As a result, we have been able to strike up a strategic partnership with Voigtlaender Water. These innovative systems to mineralise purified and filtered water made our system complete.

We are therefore now in a position to offer different systems for water processing that, in this combination, offer qualities that are unique on the world market.

The second core pillar of our development work, which is innovative drivetrain technology, has also been pushed forward in recent years. We have used the scandals arising last year with regard to the manipulation of emissions as an opportunity to develop further innovations in this area too. Our innovation has already made it possible to go over and above the Euro6 emissions standards that are only set to come into force in the coming years. This has been achieved without any electronic input, and is based purely on innovative technology.

As a result of these developments, it is now possible to achieve a four-stroke process in one rotation, instead of in two as has been necessary up to now. This leads to a huge increase in efficiency, with savings of over 50%. The fuel burn required is reduced as a result by around half.

These pioneering technologies make it possible to achieve dramatically lower operating costs with greater efficiency. This also has positive effects on the environmental pollution that is becoming ever greater, as this is reduced significantly, and above all, sustainably, with the use of our technologies.

Oberzom S.A. – Future Outlook

Alternative drivetrain methods are currently being researched as a next logical step in the process of permanent advancement. This extends initially to vehicles with electric drivetrains, but above all to hydrogen drivetrains, which have not yet been possible. We are already engaged in development in this area.
